Catch meter readings crossing a safe threshold before an asset fails

Every hour, WebRun opens UpKeep, checks each asset's latest meter reading, such as runtime hours, temperature, or pressure, against its safe operating threshold, and posts a Slack alert the moment a reading crosses the line so a technician can act before the asset fails.

In short

How do I know when a meter reading crosses a safe threshold?

WebRun checks every metered asset's latest reading in UpKeep each hour and compares it against the safe operating threshold set for that asset. The moment a runtime, temperature, or pressure reading crosses the line, it posts a Slack alert naming the asset and the technician assigned, so someone can act before the asset actually fails.

  • A threshold breach gets a Slack alert within the hour it happens
  • Technicians act on a reading before it turns into an asset failure
  • Repeat alerts stay quiet once a breach is already open, cutting channel noise

Step by step

What does WebRun do on every run?

The exact actions WebRun takes, in order - in plain language, so you can adjust anything.

  1. WebRun signs in and gets to work

Opens app.onupkeep.com in a real browser with your saved login - no setup, no API keys.

  2. 1
UpKeep - check meter readings against thresholds
    upkeep.com How to Automate UpKeep
WebRun in UpKeep: check meter readings against thresholds
WebRun opens UpKeep to check meter readings against their safe thresholds.
    • Open UpKeep and pull the latest meter reading logged for each metered asset
    • Compare each reading against the safe operating threshold set for that asset
    • Capture the asset, meter type, current reading, and threshold for anything crossed

Done when Every meter reading that crossed its threshold since the last check is identified.

  3. 2
Slack - alert the technician to act
    slack.com How to Automate Slack
WebRun in Slack: alert the technician to act
WebRun posts a threshold alert to Slack and tags the assigned technician.
    • Post an alert to the maintenance channel naming the asset, meter type, current reading, and threshold
    • @-mention the technician assigned to that asset
    • Note whether this is the first time the threshold was crossed or it is still open

Done when The assigned technician has an alert for every threshold crossed.

Questions, answered

Which meters does it check?

Any meter you have set up on an asset in UpKeep with a safe operating threshold, such as runtime hours, temperature, or pressure. Assets without a threshold set are skipped.

Does it log the meter reading itself?

No. It reads the meter values your team or your sensors have already logged in UpKeep. WebRun only compares the latest reading against the threshold and alerts on a breach.

Will it keep alerting about the same breach?

It sends a fresh alert the first time a threshold is crossed, then notes in later alerts that the breach is still open, so the channel does not get spammed with repeats.
