A cannabis clinic sells one signed document
Verify MC does one thing, for a market that exists only because of state law: medical cannabis certification. It is cloud EMR and practice management software for the physicians, clinics and dispensaries inside a state programme, and it is written VerifyMC about as often as in full.
Almost the entire relationship fits inside one appointment. A patient arrives, often by video, with a condition they believe qualifies. The physician reviews their medications, talks through risks and benefits, and either signs a written certification or does not. A recommendation and an ID card come out of it, and the patient goes to a dispensary.
Then the clock starts. A certification expires, in most states annually, and on that day a patient becomes a lapsed one. A clinic that certified two thousand people last year is really running a renewal book, and the size of that book is what the practice is worth.
Every state writes its own rulebook
What makes the admin heavy is that none of it is national. Qualifying conditions differ by state, and so do the forms, the renewal interval, the proof of residency accepted and the government registry the paperwork must reach.
A clinic operating in four states is running four compliance regimes out of one patient list. Somebody at the front desk has to hold in their head that a condition accepted in one place is refused next door, that one state wants a driver's licence where another takes a utility bill, and that a signed certification is not a card. The state issues the card, on its own website and its own timetable, and a patient certified three weeks ago may still be in a queue.
Underneath runs the ordinary business. Who paid and who did not. Who never joined their video visit. Which physician holds a licence where, and whether anyone has open time on Thursday in the state where forty people are waiting.

Read the patient list every night the way a compliance officer would, and the questions a clinic never finds time for turn into a short list on Monday morning.
Last month's certifications checked one by one to confirm each records a condition genuinely valid in that patient's state, with the mismatches pulled out before an auditor finds them. Patients certified but never filed with the state registry, named alongside how long they have been stuck, because a patient waiting on a card blames the clinic and not the government. Photo IDs and proofs of residency that never cleared verification, gathered into a queue that names the missing document rather than the gap.
Certifications expiring in the next six weeks set against who has already rebooked, so the recall list is the difference between the two. Completed visits with no matching payment, which in a cash-pay speciality is the whole margin. Waiting patients in each state weighed against which physician has open time there.
This is a medical record in a regulated programme, so the line is firm. Reading, comparing and listing run unattended. A certification, a chart entry, a registry filing or a message to a patient is prepared, then waits for the physician or staff member whose name goes on it.

Can it file a patient with the state registry for us?
No. It reads who has been certified, works out whose filing has not gone in, and hands your compliance team a worklist with the names and the dates. The submission itself is made by a person, because a registry entry is a legal statement about a patient.
Would a patient get a renewal text nobody had read?
Never. Renewal recalls and rebooking notes are drafted with that patient's own dates filled in and held for staff to approve. Nothing addressed to a patient goes out on its own, which also keeps your messaging inside the consent rules you already work to.
We certify in several states with different rules. Is that a problem?
No, it is the usual reason to run it. Each state is another set of conditions and another registry site to read, and the exceptions come back grouped by state, so the front desk can see at a glance where the gaps have opened up.
